Hand in Hand
Apadana, Persepolis, Fars, Iran, 2007
Carved some 2,500 years ago on the stairway of the Apadana, Persian and Median nobles climb toward the king, two of them walking hand in hand, a gesture of friendship and loyalty at the Achaemenid court. Low sun rakes across the stone, lighting every curl of their beards, the folds of their robes, and the twelve-petaled rosette above them.
Medium format 6×6 color slide film, 2007. From the Pardis series.
