Harbor of Windcatchers
Laft, Qeshm Island, Hormozgan, Iran, 1996
The village of Laft on Qeshm Island, in the Persian Gulf, where windcatchers rise above the rooftops and traditional wooden dhows, known locally as lenj, rest on the calm water of the harbor. For centuries Laft lived from the sea, through fishing, trade and boat building, and its windcatchers cooled the houses through the long Gulf summers. Warm low light catches the towers while the boats wait offshore on a still sea.
Medium format 6×6 film, 1996.
