Last Light of the Empire
Apadana Palace, Persepolis, Fars, Iran, 2007
The surviving columns of the Apadana, the great audience hall of Persepolis, stand in silhouette against a burning sky as the sun drops behind the Zagros foothills. Raised some 2,500 years ago by Darius the Great, they once held up the roof of the hall where kings received envoys from across the Achaemenid Empire. Today they stand alone, black against red cloud and the last gold of the horizon.
6×9 color slide film, shot on a large format camera, 2007. From the Pardis series.
